Some of the members of silverfishlongboarding.com forums recently held a backyard board building contest. Participants were given one month to build a board from individual plys to full setups, with graphics and all. Now, the boards have been built and voting is taking place to determine winners in two categories.
Note that these are longboards, and not old school or popsicle sticks. If that's not your thing, don't hit the links. Having said that, there are some innovative backyard presses and building materials discussed over there that may help you make a better board. Epoxy, fiberglass, formica and carbon fiber are regular topics.
One poll is for the best finish, and the other poll is for the over all best board.
The boards can be viewed here:

Head on over and give some support to these guys that built boards with no prize offered. These are the guys making innovations that just may show up in your future ride.
Slob, if it's not cool for me to post this, or if it doesn't belong here, just delete it and spank me by PM. It's not my intention to spam, just to build support for the skating community.
