Email and I can help you out or try some of this and post your results...

Sounds to me like you downloaded some spyware that overwrote your hosts file... Pretty notorious for that.

If you are using a pc, try this.

Search your C: drive for files called hosts and lmhosts

Open it in notepad (text editor, etc) and search for 'ebay' or any other site that doesn't work.

The only thing that should really be in the file is:
127.0.0.1 localhost
other than the first 20 lines which should start with a # sign.

If you found the word ebay in the file, or the file is more than 30 lines long just rename the file with a .old extension and then give it a try. You can actually just delete the contents of the file or the file itself, but try renaming it.

I had the exact same problem, where some sites loaded fine and others (i.e. hotmail and ebay) wouldn't connect. I spent a week with various techies checking everything in my system. It turned out to be the standard modem from my dsl company was bad. They replced it and everything worked great. I would contact your dsl company and they can run checks on the modem, at least to rule it out before you going messing with your system.
You should most definately be running a firewall. If not a linksys, at a minimum zonealarm and any number of free firewalls available. you have to protect your system from hackers.
