Me, Wedge & SteveD were on our way to skate Owls Head in Brooklyn last Sunday and we had time to kill before it opened. So we hit Coney Island and were eating Nathans dogs for breakfast. But Wedge ate two and his ass was dragging in the bowl.

I agree that there is no such thing as a bad hot dog. That said, my current favourites are the big cheese filled smokies. You know, the ones that crack when you bite into them(not to mention spray the entire inside of your mouth with a thick coat of thermonuclear hot processed cheese). Mmmmmm.... Third degree burns.
Who are these motherfuckers dissin' on the ketchup?? It's true that the mustard is the king of the dog(only French's Yellow here), but the ketchup and mustard are symbiotic. They need each other when it comes to a dog. Onions are good, preferrably fried(although I'm going to try GM's beer boil), and shredded chedar or prehaps mozza. That's it (chilidogs are a class unto their own).

I kind of go off when talking about dogs. I used to do a fanzine called Mystery Meat that was devoted to Punk Rock and Hot Dogs.

Strangle--give the dogs or brats a little warm-up in the beer and onion boil before grilling. You won't be disappointed.

I'm really sorry, guys, but Ketchup is reserved for the fries. It belongs nowhere near a hot dog. Unless of course, you are 7. Then it's okay.

Sam's Super Samwiches in downtown Homewood, Alabama is the best hot dog joint on the planet. I've eaten dogs in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, etc... Nowhere else has the caliber of hot dogs that Birmingham, Alabama does. Deny it all you want, but, until you roll through and try a double slaw and a jumbo special at Sam's, you'll just be wandering the desert. Again, sorry to be the spoiler.

@Amorone,
You're the last 'Bama guy besides me who hasn't either been kicked off or stormed out of this place, back me up, would ya?

Flame on, ya goons!

Who would defile ketchup by putting it on a hot dog? Having seen what goes into them (yech!!) and how they're manufactured, I'll pass on 'em (unless really drunk, or if it's an unresistable corndog).

Well, at least Zodiac knows how to spell ketchup, even if he's wrong about it's application.

I'd like to try Sam's. It is impossible to get slaw on a dog around here. Go figure...

I really dug the whole slaw/chili/cheese complement to hotdogs or burgers that I got accustomed to when I lived in Chapel Hill. Hector's made a pretty mean plate of food...
