This shit is definately a sleeper. Don't eat it if you have anything planned in the next couple of hours...it'll put you on your ass. I've had every roommate ask for this recipe. I hope some of you try it!
2lbs Ground Beef (sirloin is a tasty option)
2 Cans tomato soup
1 tomato soup can full of water
1 onion
1 cup grated Cheddar Cheese
Basil + Oregano
Salt + Pepper
Rice
Brown Onion and Beef. Add some basil and oregano while cooking(tablespoon of each is about what I use). Drain. Put in 2 cans of soup and 1 can of water. Cook this down considerably on low/medium heat....usually about 15-20 minutes. Start your rice when you start cooking it down. Don't use instant rice...that shit sucks and comprimises the integrity of the meal.
Once the slumgullian is cooked down...nice and thick with hardly any free liquids...add 1 cup of grated cheese and stir it in. Serve on top of rice. I usually throw on a little salt/pepper and parmesean cheese once it's on my plate.
Don't say I didn't warn you...this shit will put you down for the count. Let me know if anyone decides to try this. |

That shit sounds good as hell, appears to be similar to a macaroni and beef type thing my mom makes that i go crazy over. I shall have to try this soon. |

The only difference was we used elbow macoroni instead of rice. |

Yup it is good, especially when it has sat in the fridge overnight and "marinated". |

THM and I had very decadent amounts of slumgullion for dinner, and it was delicious.
We tweaked it a bit as follows:
Substituted Campbell's Tomato Bisque soup for regular Tomato (a little creamier, and chunks of tomatos)
Added one large chopped (obviously) clove of garlic with the onion
Added a bit of cayenne pepper prior to cheese adding, stirring vigorously
Added in some tortollini instead of serving over rice (I'm anti-rice)
Garnished with a heavy dollop of sour cream
I look forward to eating it again as soon as I have room at the inn.
This meal is no joke--don't eat it just prior to running a marathon...
Excellent recipe. Thanks, Josh! |
