Hello

this is Michael Brooke in Toronto (aka Skategeeer).

Thanks to Slob for providing me the forum...

Pretty well anything goes here....as long as its skate related. I am pleased to be here at S&B and thankful the forums are now up and running.

Over the next 12 months, you will see significant changes within skateboarding...it's already happening...but things are going to start rapidly changing...

the revolution won't be televised...but it might just take the form of a major motion picture...

Of course, if you have problems receiving your mailed copy of the mag, I can help too.

"Is that board oldschool?"

"Can you ollie on that thing?"

"Whoa, that's a big skateboard."

"Where did you get that?"

"My, your gigantic weiner is dragging on the ground behind you!"

mine would have to be:
"what are those things on the bottom of your board?"
or
"why do you put weights on the bottom of your board?"

it will be interesting to see what the impact of lords of dogtown will be. i had the opportunity to read the script. seemed to be a number of scenes devoted to skating, first pool carves, etc., trying to convey the momentous achievements/developments that these were. but will kids today really care about that? are they too jaded after 900s, 12-stair 360 flips, and the like? i would imagine that the documentary already took a little wind out of the sails on this, from a revolutionary perspective, that is, within skateboarding (by this i mean drawing the elders out of their premature graves thanks to the popsicle swarm of the mid/late 90s). it can certainly build atop what the first achieved, no doubt, but i'm wondering if the fictionalized version will carry the weight its precursor did, especially when the basic story from the documentary is just fleshed out in a more cinematic/visual manner and will include more lifestyle stuff behind the main characters, aside from the skating aspects.

it will be entertaining, but maybe that's all it will be? i don't know...skateboarding certainly is growing up in an interesting way and becoming multi-generational. the father/son thing could be considerably more apparent in the years to come.

i am interested to see what catherine hardwicke does in the director's chair. she'll certainly lend a grittier air to the film than it may have had with another director. and thank christ fred durst didn't get entrusted with the job...

I have your book and i think it is really cool. i have only read one issue of the magazine, the new one. cover to cover like 3 times. rock on.

Frequently asked question is:

"Do you like Old-school boards?"

You just ignore them and snake them on your next run. Kids in the skateworld today are dicks.
