Basic screen prior to coating..._a final look at the virgin screen prior to
coating it with a special photo-emulsion.

Coating tool: this is the device you can buy at any screenprinters outlet for
the application of the coat.

Applying the emulsion: you draw a line from top to bottom on both sides of the
screen once only. After that, you use your tool again to take off as much as
possible from that emulsion -same as doing a sandwich, you dont want to have 90
percent of butter on it. So make sure your layer of emulsion is nice and thin.

Drying: before we burn the picture in to the screen the emulsion has to be dry.
You can use different things for that: place the frame in front of a heater, use
a hair dryer or something else for it -just make sure its gentle, because the
mesh is heat sensitive.
End of phase one
.....more tomorrow
ohio, whats this t bevel jig? come on let the cat out of the bag! show us some pics or describe about your set up alittle. "Cant we all just get along" ha ha. You sound like you got yours together pretty good does your system use just flat screens or do you use the curved hand made frames too . t-bevel? sounds pretty good. |

ohio,
Are you using an adjustable screen? I think you said you were. I'm not sure I understand how a sliding t-bevel would assist you in making the screen.... |

you guys make me laugh!
anyhow im no expert i just have spent alot of time with no help so i mess with shit, and spend the money i have trying the same as you guys to figure it out. donald has it figured out, i knew exactly what donald had already figured out without seeing his pictures or anybody elses screens or set up. What i understood is that the screen had to be with the nose and the tail so i made a screen out of wood but was a pain so i paid to have an aluminum one made just a normal rectangle, i think it was like 43 by 24 o.d. 1.5 inch square aluminum.
Then i used a t-bevel square and put it on the bottom of the board on nose and tail to get the angles which i my board was the same.
Then i measured from where the angle starts on the nose and the angle starts on the tail.
On my board it was like 22 inches.
Then i cut the angles which are little triagles out of the three sides and the bottom of the frame. I keep one side so that the screen adheres here. Then i got it welded. So i pretty much had and up over and down. got it! So then i got it streched and it didnt work it was to high in the middle because when you strech the frame the pulling down on the ends of the frame cause it to really not take the shape you originaly thought, its an optical elusion. So i took that same frame and cut the three sides in exactly the middle of the frame and bent it down to where it is very close to the board. But what i was saying before is you dont have to weld the angles you can put adjusters on the sides of the frame that you can tighted and loosen to the angles you want. See with this the frame can be streched flat, allittle tighter so then when you adjust it to the board it will loosen up enough so that you will have a loose mesh with adjustable angles. I know most of you wont understand this right now but i think donald might. Epoxy inks bro! super shiny and hard
i dont know how to post pictures of what i have and drawings.
i dont know much about all this i have only been working on it for like 7 months but the screen is the key the rest if easy as shit. As for the squeeges i need to get a softer one im just looking for kind of soft material but they key is the fingers. im as excited as you guys but i have become desensitized because its take me this long all i have very little to show. I couldnt get any info so i went into this blind, thats why i couldnt belive it when i found you guys, and donald who seems to have the shit in gear. i waiting like the rest of you to get it rolling but i dont know even if that template donald has with work with different angles on different boards. ya know. This has been a roller coaster ride for me i think i have it all figured out but then doesnt work. if i could only get this frame shit better, its all gonna come out.
I check this web sight all the time like 2 times a day and see what is new
ill talk to you guys later.

ohio, i see what u mean about adjusting tension but i think donalds jig is so large that it over compensates for slight differences. i haven't been to kentucky yet. but looking at pictures has got me ready to go. |

by the way-you should actually use the good!!! water-based colors...
my frames are perfect for any! new school shapes... |
