Wondering if film is still the way to go or? I work for Kodak in the large format ink jet(Encad) printers. If I could print on clear film id have postives, but dont really know if anyone does this. I know the last time I had "real" film positives made it was expen$ive!

I use a laser jet on printer film all the time and it works really really well..

If you use a laserjet, you need to set the toner heads to lay down the most amount of toner possible. The image needs to be opaque.

If you use an inkjet you need to make sure you give the film time to dry before burning your screen.

Hope that helps.. Like I said, I print my own films, I've never paid to have a film made. It works really well.

hi, i use ink jet film almost exclusivly with really good results. the only problem is most ink jets are not post script so no half tones. instead, i output indexed colours as diffusion dithers in photo shop. vectors print very good as well. when out put the film, i print the black as full colour for maximum opacity. hope this helps.

So to make my film/positive, can I just use a transparancy in the inkjet?

its better to use a specific film or vellum that is made for screen film production. This can help a TON with registration issues and shrinkage.

I use a vellum w/laser and a screen-specific film for ink jet. They both come in rolls as well which is good for larger 'tip-to-tail' images.
