im curious how many of you guys had problems with your decks, either on display or in storage with warping, cracking, splitting ect.
any precautions to take with changes in weather? air conditioning?
basicly, what you may have learned from your errors in the past.
what is the best way to hang decks and not worry?
also, if shrink makes a diff. |

I never had any problems, but i live in los angeles, not eactly very humide.
I heard people say that letting a deck in shrink will increase the chances of warp. I heard that but that's it. I don't know if it's true or not.

Don't hang decks anywhere near direct sun or over heat of any kind. Learned that the hard way. Also, not too dry, not too humid, and, no extreme changes of moisture or temperature. These are the big things that warp and damage decks and paint. |

also putting them near heaters or ac units or anywhere where they have the potential to heat up and cool down quickly
is bad, this causes cracking in the paint and sometimes in the wood. |

yeah, quickly changing temperature is hell for any deck...
In our local shop, one rack of decks is about
3-4 Feet away from the entrance...last winter every single deck they put there for longer time curled up because of the door being opened and closed all the time...
fuckers even had the nerve to still sell the boards for 15-20...no comment

Living in Western Pennsylvania the temperature is always going crazy. It can be 35 one day and 90 the next. I have decks near my windows near the heater, and air conditioner, ect. I've never had deck here warp. The only warped deck I have is one I bought from someone here who forgot to mention it was warped during our deal. I bought a Red Kross Olson about 6 weeks ago while I was on the road and afterward noticed it was warped. I called Giant Dist. about it, and they were totally cool about it. I sent the warped deck back to them and in about a week had a brand new Olson deck setting on my frontporch.

hitting them daily with a sledgehammer or setting them alight ,when covered with lighter fluid, can also cause some damage.
I found that out the hard way.
though curiously, wiping them gently with a cloth seems to do no damage. |
