The working width of the press has to be enough to handle your mold lengthwise. The 2 on your post look to be no wider than 30" total you need a minimum of 4'.
The ton capacity needed to press your board doesn't have to be so high eigther. You can build a press of that same design out of steel I beam or even 4"x6" framing lumber.
A wooden press rquires more ton capacity than a steel one due to the absorbsion of press force into the lumber frame. Steel absorbs less force and could remain close to an actual ton capacity from your hydrualics.
200 to 300 psi is all that is required to laminate decks. Pick up a "Pocket Referance" form any hardware or builders supply to help calculate what ton to use with your press. There are Hydrualic piston/hand pump systems available for less than $200. be sure to get one with a pressure gauge.

Most of the info you need to build a deck is very hard to come by, nobody wants you to know what they know. I'm not sure where the 2000 psi came from but if you really want good insight on building decks talk to the glue makers. Their tech guys are very knowlegable about the products they sell and can answer some pretty tough questions about laminating.
Pressing a deck is only one step to building, letting the pressed product cure after it is removed from the press is very very important.
Look up National Casien on the net, they make skateboard laminating glues. |

I think I need to figure out the press first. It's all very hard and i'm slowy working through all the theory behind it before I spend the cash.
What I picked up from you was that I should construct my own frame and then buy hydraulics sepratly. Sounds like a good idea so I will try and source some stuff. I was thinking the hydraulic out a trailed or wheelchair lift from somthing at the scrap hard but of course they wont have a pressure gadge. |
