I haven't used an airbrush on decks, but this weekend I did graphics on 2 decks with good ol' spray paint. I used clear lo-tac contact paper to cut the stencils with, and multi-layered stencils for the different colors (kind of like how you separate colors before screen printing). They actually came out really well...I showed them to a couple friends, and they swore they were screened. I'm assuming you could probably get even better results with an airbrush (more spray control). I'll try to figure out how to post pics when I get home from the j o b... |

Those are pretty sweet. How long did it take you to do all that? What kind of spray paint did you use? i'm assuming you cut all that stuff with something sharp, like
an exacto knife or something...it probably took you a while. But yeah, those look awesome and looked screened not sprayed.

they took me about 4+ hours a piece...the most time consuming was cutting the stencils (with an exacto knife). I just used high-gloss exterior/interior enamel. |

What did you use for your stencil? If it's the same lo-tac contact paper, did you cut your stencil after it was stuck to the board? I noticed your letters are not "stencil" letters (you have free-floating middle parts). I cut mine first, then stuck it to the deck so I wouldn't have any knife-score marks. In doing so, you have to do letters "stencil" style, or you'll be missing middles of o's and a's, etc.

Yeah, those are called 'Counters'.
I used vinyl stickers cut from a plotter. That and transfer tape to hold it together.
