Hi! I started skateboarding in July, only practicing movement. I finally got myself a pair of high-top vans 2 days ago (I had been originally been skating in athletic running shoes the whole time) and WOW it makes it so much easier to skate!
However, I didn't cut the tags off my vans to make sure they fit well enough and don't hurt my feet over time (and they were $90 lol so I don't want to waste that money). I tried on the low rise, mid, and high top vans at the store and the high tops were the only ones that didn't insanely hurt my feet. But they started hurting after walking around in them for a few hours, to the point where my feet hurt the next day.
My question is, are all vans this uncomfortable for everyone or is it just skate shoes in general? I know you need the flat bottoms, but I'm wondering if there's any other better shoes out there that anyone knows about or has some info. Also, I have a wide foot and that makes things tough with vans as they're rather narrow and don't come in wide. I'll end up dealing with it and keeping them if they're all pretty uncomfortable. |

Vans hi tops have been my choice for over 30 years.
With most shoes and boots they start out stiff and uncomfortable until they’re broken in.
I still get a blister on my back heel and pressure on my little toe with new vans....once they soften and mould to your foot, I reckon they are the best.
Hit them with a hammer.🤪
I can’t comment on other brands.
Welcome to skateboarding.....have fun.🤓✌🏻 |

I've been wearing pretty much only Vans for the last 20 years.
When I get a new pair i wear two pairs of socks in them for a few days. It helps break them in and protects your feet from blisters like mentioned above. |

Some Vans are better than others—based on 30 years of wearing them after a number of years with Leather Nike hightops, Converse, Converse knock-offs and Nike nock-offs.
They are different year to year. Early high top had softer grippier soles and broke in quick but that soon changed. The best shoe Vans ever did were the TNT 1s—fantastic heal protection. TNT 2 and 3 weren't bad but gradually as they made their way to the current they havestarted to suck. Not sure what is great in vans line-up right now but I got some of the latest TNTs which seem to be OK.
I had some Nike Blazers a few years back that were real good for both skating and just walking around—I unfortunately left them at a skatepark a couple hours away. Gone forever. |

Yeah, he added that the next day.
It wasn’t there in the original post.
I guess the other thread about choosing a new skateboard will end up with some sort of click link spam bait.😒
You think you’re helping out a kid that’s starting to skate but it ends up crap....... |
