Okay. I don't post much and have recently sold 75% of my collection. This is just an observation. I use to love ebay. It was the perfect economic model. Auctions that started at 0.99 and the price was determined by the beautiful and perfect principle of supply and demand. If there was high demand i.e. more than two bidders, the price would ramp up to the point determined by the person who wanted it less, valued it less or had less money and so dropped out. If there was low demand the price was low. It worked perfectly. Now everything is fixed price, usually, double what any learned, experienced collector would value it at. So now ebay is no different from any other economic model in which the price is determined by the seller and not the interaction between the buyer and seller.
BRING BACK AUCTIONS. START EVERYTHING AT 0.99 AND LET MARKET MECHANISMS DETERMINE THE PRICE.
And don't get me started on the lack of protection sellers have..... |

yep. true. it is getting closer and closer to becoming "just another website" when it comes to trying to score old decks. |

True - have insertion fees. That's how they got rich in the first place. Hell, if they did that, half the shit that pollutes it would be weeded out. And reasonable closing costs for christ's sake. It's almost punishment to sell anything...I think the idea of high starts is to make up for the 20% handling fee. |

lack of seller protection is a big reason I don't sell anymore. The buyer just has to claim they never received the item and eBay/Paypal will rule in their favour
then buyers can't leave negative feedback for sellers - or is it the other way round ? |

yeah, other way around ^^ sellers cant leave negs for shit buyers.
its lame. and the seller protection is fucked.
I had a guy take a pic of a box filled with random articles and file a claim of "contents missing" when it arrived internationally. WTF!??
isnt that what customs is for??
seeing whats in a box? verifying the goods??
and if it wasnt there would it get through...
OR maybe they hustled it themselves and pushed it through... ?
I dunno.. but regardless, there are so many schemes today that dealing on the whole is less enjoyable than ever. |

ebay is fucked and has been. It really lost the appeal once you could no longer see who was bidding against you. the shilling was there before but not the way it is now.
collecting scene is erratic and has jumped the shark. Once things are being produced for the collectible aspect, its downhill from there. Online skateshops upon checkout now have a checkbox for "skate it" OR "hang it" at which point the upsell ya on hangers. Im sure the sales for hangers are 50/50 with riders. a sign of things.
"limited" and reissues have flooded bay and I hate to sound all elitist by saying this but there are too many fucktards overpaying for stupid shit produced last week. Shits gotten so absurd. So its not just EBAY that sucks.. its the collecting scene on the whole. |

thats when it went downhill for me, when sellers could no longer post negatives about the buyers. Of course its gonna go to shit when there is only accountability on one side of the deal. The crazy thing about that whole concept is that a decision like that is made by a group of people, I can't imagine one person thinking that is/was a good idea. Its mind boggling. I always make sure to ship with signature confirmation or at least fully insured, IF I get paid, |
