Anybody have one they swear by? I'm currently playing emg 81/85 and really like them, but am feeling the need to tinker and recently picked up a Duncan JB sh4. I was also looking at the Duncan nazgul which seemed close to the emg but in a passive pickup.

I had EMGs in a couple guitars—replaced them all. Seymour Duncans are great (though they have an EMG like pickup that sucks) but rightnow my favourites are Gibson 57 Classics, PX-90s and Hamer Seymour Duncans.

Depends on the wood/construction/tuning....I'm with Slob on the Gibson 57 Classics.... but plan on putting some BareKnuckle pickups in a few of my guitars. Friend has a few different types in his guitars...and they all sound amazing.

I have one of those in my VH clone and its fantastic—JB in the bridge and a T-Top out of an old Gibson Explorer in the neck.
Most of the pickups in Hamers are either Seymour Duncans or "Designed by Seymour Duncan"—I've never come across one I didn't like except the triple coil one they put in the Phantom but that dislike was mostly based on all the phasing and coil tapping they had going on.

I'd like to try those. I've heard good things but the Doom guys seem very attracted to them so.... If you get some please let me know how they are.
I have a jazz sh2n to go in the neck with the JB in the bridge. I'll probably coil tap them with push/pull knobs. They're going in a epiphone sg that I'm upgrading. I also picked up an onboard distortion unit that I'm putting in. It was only $20 and seemed like a easy way to get nearer to the emg output. http://www.guitarpartsonline.com/Onbo...on-Unit-32003.htm
