Im pretty sure this has been discussed before but for some reason the search option was not working. So I built a free mini ramp that I was given and covered it with Masonite. ITs only been 5 months and the Masonite is really warped now. What a waste of money. I looked online for Skatelite sold near Los Angeles and I got a quote of $240 a sheet of 4X8. Does anyone know an alternative or a place they would sell it cheaper or used? Thanks |

Similar to skatelite sheets cost about €180 (US$250) over here in Europe.
Resurfacing my entire ramp with those would cost me €6k (US$8.2k). |

There's has to be a cheaper alternative to outdoor resurfacing. |

its either skatelite (or one of their competitors like ramp armor, ramp x, etc.. they are all expensive)
or get a tarp system figured out to cover your masonite.
best tarping system ive seen (and i live in MN!) is use rubber sheeting used for roofing. they come in 10x20 sheets and run $75-$100 each (last time i looked - available from like Menards) . you can hot glue the rubber sheets together to make a giant rubber tarp that you can 'roll off' the ramp by attaching 2x4s at the ends.
good luck! |

My masonite has held up pretty well over about a year now with only a shitty harbor freight tarp. Granted that I'm in a dry climate in Colorado, but we do get rain and snow. Just have to stay diligent about putting the tarp up.
I could resurface my ramp yearly for ten years for the coast of one layer of skatelite. No thanks. |

We covered a full sized vert ramp with steel. (16 or 18 gauge, I can't remember. It's just over a 1/16th thick. )
We counter sunk the screws.
2 winters, in British Columbia. It's still fast as hell and other than some rust, looks like it did when we put it down. Way cheaper than all those " ramp surfaces" and I think it's way nicer to skate.
I have no idea why anyone would put down any other riding surface than steel. Control slides, fast as hell, zero maintenance |

I can't help you with the cheaper skatelite but thougt I'd add that I've been exceptionally lucky with my ramp which is just regular 9mm ply over a 12mm base layer. It's lasted almost 5 years in New Zealand weather conditions which can literally be 4 seasons in one day. Granted it's definitely in need of a new layer now but is still skateable bar the odd little hole. What about painting it? I've always wondered if that would be a good option for mine but nobody has ever been able to tell me which is the best type of paint to use to get the best mix of protection and grippiness/slidiness. |
