OK, I'm a drummer but putz around on bass for shits and giggles.

I had a sweet Ric 4003 but sold that and my 200 watt hand wired Orange Bass head 5 years ago to help fund a down payment on a house. I actually sold all my recording and music shit except my drum kit for that fucking house.

Anyway, I want to buy another bass and want another Ric 4003 but there is a year wating list.

I'm entertaining the thought of a Gibson Les Paul bass. They look pretty cool, I bet they are heavy as fuck but I've never seen one or handled one so I'm curious how they play. I loved my Ric 4003 so anyone whos tried both could maybe shed a bit of light on my quandry.

I want a Reeves 200 watt bass head but for just mucking about, playing to CD's that is quite overkill so I'll just buy an old silverface Fender 100 watt Bassman head and use it with my 1 x 15" cab.

I had an Epiphone Les Paul bass- junk! Looked cool, but the electronics were all weird (cut out on me mid-show more than once), I think the bone chipped, fuck, I was lucky the thing worked ok when I traded it in. I really wanted to go Pete Townshend on that, but my budget kept me in line.

I'm sure the Gibsons are wayyyy better quality. I settled into a Fender P-Bass. Plain, but has never let me down.

Im a guitar player, but i have a bass to noodle around on. I, like zeno, have a Fender P Bass and its so awesome. I dont know, to me, Gibson is about 6 string guitars. I could never get into the look of the Les Paul bass and like you said, it must weigh a ton. Fender bass guitars are just classic. Keep us posted. Hit up a guitar center just to try out some different styles. Just promise me you wont get an Ibenez, B.C. Rich or a Dean bass

Sticks was selling an amp rig.

Ever play one of those late 70s fender studio bass amp (6 x 6l6)? That was a tube combo we had set up with a Ric bass? So badass

Thanks for the referral.

I'd love to sell/trade it to Colin but it's kinda big for his needs - and postage to Canada would be a drag.

Les Paul basses are big and heavy. Its hit or miss how they sound. Some sound fantastic, some are kind of dead.

Don't know how they play, and I couldn't tell the diff anyway. But regardless, they look kinda weirdly proportioned. LP's are already a small guitar, so when you tack on a bass neck they are like baby toys.

Ric all the way dude. A white one. Go used!

Have you considered a Musicman stingray. I don't own one, but have played a few and they are nice. I like the active pickups and they feel well made.
