Jeremy Scott kooked it big time. Nice to see he lost that fight and was held responsible for his crime.

Either does anyone else, now.
That is such a great fucking statement. Literally turned the kook inside out without actually exhibiting even a modicum of cruelty. Well done, Bob. |

i dont know how he thought he could possibly get away with this blatant rip off. like anyone would never notice or we as skaters are just insignificant peices of shit that nothing would come of it.
he's not an artist, just a thief. |

Did Santa Cruz ask Coca Cola permission for 'Enjoy Jeff Grosso?'
I'm not a fan of this fashion kook but it seems there is a history in skateboarding of ripping off imagery/ graphics from elsewhere yet it seems it can't work the other way... |

Underground cultures parodying mainstream culture is way different from mainstream culture stealing artwork and representing it as your own. Jeremy Scott claimed to have drawn the designs himself, that he may have been "inspired" by skate art but that he actually came up with all the images. Santa Cruz never claimed it came up with the coca cola logo when confronted. And guess what, skateboard companies have paid the price for their parodies through settlements and cease and desists. With the grosso graphic everyone knows what your looking at and thats the point. Underground culture parodys corporations in a social commentary way, think andy Warhol. It only works one way though. When a designer of this guys standing steals the art of 2 of legends of skateboard history and then says that it's his original designs that's fucked and he knew it. Look, you either get it or you don't, if you equate world industries parodying L Ron Hubbard as the same thing as let's say The rolling stones stealing a black flag cover art and saying they drew it then good day to you. You either get it or you don't and anything I say ain't gonna convince you. Dude s a culture vulture and it stile original art, claimed he came up with it and got fucked. Just like SC would if we re released that graphic by coke. |

I have to continue to respectfully disagree with you, goon. If you were talking about the Nike Vs Minor Threat debacle from a few years ago, I'd sympathize with your analogies but Santa Cruz is hardly 'underground culture' and Jeremy Scott is hardly a multi-national mega corp.
In the end I'm on your side but SC could have taken the high road and done a parody graphic of this fashion clown taking it up the bum by way of Jeff Grosso or something- I could respect such a form of retaliation... taking legal action (given the rich history in skateboarding of the rip off and parody) not so much... |
