...that you know could be better.
One of the biggest problems is that I use dyes, not paints. So when doing the original Acid Spiders they were sanded down bare wood. Well what happened is that the final colors sprayed became chalky and would capture minute dust in the chalky pours of the deck.
As well the about half of the first Acid Spiders warped or blistered. So I replaced all those and or destroyed a hundred hours of work nearly. Still bummed at that.
Since these decks are done to order they are done out of sequence most times that if a board has less then desirable appearance I will kill it, sand it down since the chalky black picked up lots of dust in the pours.
Which is why this happened buffed spider
So after experimenting the last two boards of the series which are technically no.0 and no.1 where test to figure out how to get a really smooth board but make the dyes and paints stick to something smooth.
So the solution was clear the board first, then put a dapple coat of very tiny beads of clear to allow the dye to stick but not permeate the wood without fear or warping which was unlikely since the wood is pretty damn amazing.
But this is the end result, finer colors, sharper lines and obviously very smooth.
The boards not be cleared and it's already smooth looking.
Thanks for looking.
As well note the spider is a darker black then the edge rails. That is because the spider is silkscreened and the edge rail is actual sprayed paint.

Q. Do you take notes when you discover some complex angle on something your doing? It seems like a lot to remember when you're in the thick of it. You must have nerves of steel. |

I believe if you don't push yourself, be it art, technique or craft you're doomed to be stuck doing one thing, presenting one thing and being satisfied with one result. The idea is to imagine it a certain way and achieve it by knowledge, skill or experience.
I don't see it as ruining work otherwise I'd have given up a long time ago. I think the artist, crafts people here would agree.
You got to keep pushing yourself. |

Agree completely. I'm going through it right now on a deck....just not satisfied yet, (hours and hours lost) but personally i'm rarely, completely satisfied with any piece, painting, deck, or whatever i'm making. |
