I'm really excited about this! A close friend of mine who is a kingpin in the Detroit art scene has been devoting his life and art towards changing yet another forgotten area of Detroit one block/property at a time. Everything he does is DIY. We grew up skating together and he has not forgotten his roots. If anyone in this war zone can get it done it's him. He has already received a National Endowment for the Arts grant towards the project. Just moving mounds of old furniture and detritus around the empty lots in preparation has me amped!

I attempted to post previously on this but things took a turn for the better! It was in the wrong forum index anyway.

It is guys like your friend that make Detroit a great city. Tell him to keep up the good work. I'd love to lend a hand on a project like this.

This has the potential to be a very good thing. I hope they make it into everything it could possibly be |

Thanks eek-wah for the positive vibes! People doing grass roots projects like these may be the only way places like Detroit will ever change. It doesn't look like our country is ready to really promote federal public works projects to save our decaying post industrial cities.

I hope so too. They've raised over $22,000 so far but they're hoping to get a bunch more. There will be a lot of good minds coming together but they are gonna have to get creative and make something memorable. I'm keeping my fingers crossed...thanks for the positivity! |

There will be an art deck auction ending on May 26th with the potential for online bids starting in about a week. Some big names from both the skate world and art world will be participating...Marc Mckee...Matthew Barney...etc. |

Wow, lots of rad decks- amazing work for a great cause. Pretty rad that it's filled with the who's-who in "skate-art." |
