OK i just started up this skateboarding company of mine by ordering blanks off ebay and painting them myself with stencils ...well its getting pretty popular locally and i want to get real graphics ...i don't know whether i should get the blanks and do it myself (which i have been learning about screen printing and heat press and all that), but i also have the company i order blanks from right saying they will make and print my decks for 15-20 bux. They are called Slam N' City skateboards. Im not sure what i should do or even if they are the best company. Any help whats so ever will be freaking awesome. Im just trying to learn more and more. thanks

heat tranfers tend to cost more for setup and stuff. Some people complain about them adding weight. I dont think it makes that much of a dif.

I prefer silk screen just because its how things were done back in the day. Its a form of art unlike heat transfers that just get pressed on like fake fingernails.

Im with trashcan.

scrrened has a nice natural feel to it.

but then if you want a more "photo" effect that can`t be screend then why not do transfers.

The guy im going through sais heat transfer is cheaper for them than silk screen and 15-20 bux doesn't sound bad ...if these samples are good then im gunna with them atleast untill i find a better method. Eventually i might want to go to Skate Shed. Does all the big skateboarding companies like Shorty's and Element do what im doing right now or do they do the whole proccess themselves? I really appreciate u guys too ...this has been the best info i have found on the web. thanks,

Josh,
I am in the same boat as you right now. Starting up a small-scale, local company just for the love of it. Profit or not, as long as i can take part and give back, I'm stoked. I have been learning screen printing for the past few months on a DIY basis. I say fuck paying extra $$ for someone else to do your graphics. Take the time and learn how to do it DIY in true skatepunk fashion! It feels good to have full control of the process by doing it yourself, and it saves your $$ in the long run.
Here's an example of a deck i have shaped, cut, sanded, sealed, and put the graphics on:

much luck to you bro!

see thats awesome!!! Thats exactly why im doing why I'm doing all this. Love for skateboarding. I had been getting all my decks and trucks and everything off the internet for the best prices i could find so i didn't go to the skate store in a good year. Well I went to pick up some hardware and I couldn't believe the prices of all there stuff. I mainly just want the kids around here to not have to pay soo freaking much for doing what they love and what i love. skateboarding. hats off to you man. thanks,

We have changed our wood formulas and printing techniques but we are busy and I have to print and answer the phone and email I'm only one person so be pascient please. I do answer all the email every day in the morning and the end of the day.
