Well I hate to spend the money, BUT starting to strongly consider the metal top layer. So.... What gauge steel?

Metal eh?
Wouldn't skatelight or the like, be easier to work with and be a comparable price....expensive.

Steel lasts forever. Skatelight doesn't.

I've never done the steel, so I have no answers on that one as to the gauge. I think that will depend on the screws used to mount it down, as they would need to be fairly flat so they don't stick out from the countersunk holes.

I'm not sure how to describe the amount of angle on the head of the screw, but I know there are several different angles for the flush mount versions.

I looked into 16 gauge steel. I t works out to be half the price of skatelight and I can get it locally...like slob said" it'll last forever." Paint will be expensive though. I skated the metal ramp in Amsterdam and it was left raw(when I was there)
The locals said it was rusty in the spring but it cleared off with skating.
I'm thinking leave it raw.

Looks like I'm going with 14 gauge steel. Just need to figure out what kind've and where to buy paint.

I was just wondering that the other day. That would be a bitch to do right. Lots of edges to slice you and dice you.

Wire welder and a disc grinder should make short work of that...
