I do not say many prayers but I said one for your daughter.
Being a father myself I can not imagine what you are going through.
Stay strong, positive and keep looking forward to the day when it is all behind you. |

Hello friends,
Lyla went to Rady Childrens Hospital on March 20th to have an MRI and CT scan to look for any signs of cancer in her body. They also drew blood to check her "tumor marker" which is found by measuring the AFP levels in her blood. And after checking her out from head to toe, inside and out, the Doc's have declared her to be in REMISSION!!! They could not find any of the cancer left in her system! No more Chemo! The 3 rounds of Chemo she had was the minimum dose for her treatment plan and 6 was the max. She beat the projected "best case" numbers after each round and the Doctors couldn't be happier with her progress.
We are very happy and excited to share this news with all of you who wave helped us so much. Your words of encouragement, prayers, positive vibes, and financial support have helped us get to this point.
Remission is a strange word. It doesn't mean cured. There is no cure for cancer as of now. So we're stuck in this limbo/purgatory place. Our emotions run to the extreme on both ends of the scale. We go from super excited, jumping up and down, to subdued and quietly respectful of cancers ability to rear it's ugly head at any time. We don't want to jinx it by shouting "In your Face Cancer!" But we do feel like we won the battle and remain positive that there will be no war in our future.
Our sweet baby will celebrate her first birthday on April 19th. She has spent over 40 days of her short life in the hospital and another 3 months of her life recovering. It has not slowed her down or dampened her spirit. She will be walking any day now and is the constant smiling joy that keeps her mother and I going. We are truly blessed and thank you all so much.
March 20th @ Rady Childrens Hospital waiting for MRI/CT scans
She fell asleep just before her CT scan
Asleep through the scan. No anesthesia was needed. Good baby
The smallest hospital gown is still too big. On our way to MRI and anesthesiologist. MRI takes an hour and she has to be under anesthesia
March 22nd @ home

Happy Birthday Lyla - a bit late, but that's wonderful news and the best thing is to get healed, understand remission, and allow your family to start enjoying home time and growing up. |

Hey All,
Lyla is doing great! We have been testing her monthly and MRI, CT, Chest X Ray etc. every 2ND or 3rd month. So far, the only cause for concern is with her AFP. They measure her AFP level each month when they send her blood work out. A typical baby her age would have 11 AFP (she was at 349,000 when they discovered the tumor!). Lyla's got down that low after chemo but has slowly gone up each month. She has held at 41 for the last 2 months. Our Doc would really like to see it go down or at the least yo-yo up and down. Doc has been talking to a specialist @ Harvard who has let us know, that in cases like Lyla's, it may take a year to settle down to her base line number.
We go in for another round of blood work, MRI and chest x-ray tomorrow. We are praying every day that her numbers will drop.
Thank you all for your continued support, positive vibes and prayers.

I have been gone for some time now and just saw this thread. I was in tears reading all of this. I can't even begin to imagine what the emotional toll has been on you and your family. I can't express how happy I am to read she is doing well and continues to do well. This forum is an amazing place filled with truly amazing people!
Our thoughts and prayers are with you and yours,
Brandon, Susan, Brodie, and Olivia |
