I am a huge fan of the Powell Peralta Ripper image and think it is one of the more iconic skate images of all time. Its been used, abused and redone about every possible way you can dream up.... and then I see something new with it that always brings a smile to my face and brings back great memories....
this is the image that started it all (Thanks VCJ, you rock!)
Anyhow... I have been slowly collecting images of the ripper art and spoofs as I find them and sticking them up here....
http://s1014.photobucket.com/albums/a...20and%20Products/
I am sure there are a bunch that I have missed... Just in case you find any, please send them to me at [email protected]
or just post them here in this thread and I will add them up to the photobucket link above.
I was joking a while back with the powell guys that it would be fun to do a book some day on all the cool ripper art done by other companies.... with a Nod to the ripper and VCJ and then what happens...... bam...the Rip the Ripper show came out... who knew? (yeah, I wish that had something to do with me...LOL)
If you missed that, check out this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G4y0ANPm9NE
anyhow... thanks in advance for any ripper images you can find. I have only about 470 images thus far..with maybe 400 of them as unique and set my goal to hit 1000 unique ones.
Keep Ripping! |

but, before he came back to Powell he was working with Matt French on some Pocket Pistols stuff.... .this one reminded me of your McD avatar, so I had to post a pic here. See what you think.... Want Fries with that?
...ok...back to the mad genius....

Good idea... I think doing an official ripper blog would be cool. I guess for the moment, this will be kinda close to that and will try to post up something every week or even every day.
Devil for a day has been rocking that Every Day idea now since 11-21-10, so he is almost there! I have been following it and am hooked, wanting to know what the 365 devil will be. Maybe I can talk him into giving a nod to the ripper image for one of the devils....?? check his thread out here http://www.skullandbonesskateboards.c...24187&start=0
...had me thinking on maybe instead of doing a ripper book someday, maybe I should start with a calendar, as soon as I get to 365 unique rippers (+12 extra for the top of the month cover shots), then that would be fun to print up 50 or so and pass them out here for free to SnB bros who posted any rippers as a "Thank You for Ripping!" gift. Maybe that will be the goal once I hit the halfway goal of 500 unique ripper art images...
...anyhow, that is my idea for the moment.... I think I need 1,000 for the book to take shape...
but without further adieu lets show off some of the cool ripper art that Hank has rocked out in the past!! (rumor is there might be new ripper art on the way....but tons of cool past stuff to admire first!)
Nice work Hank!! These decks were apparently not made for resale and given only to riders. I am not sure how many were made, but just a few exist making them hella rare and just that much cooler!
I am a fan of the "Never Again" name and logo and what it stands for. (May 22, 2012 will make 5 years years for me, but lets not count any chickens before they hatch...). If you liked the ripper art, you will love this http://www.neveragainclothing.com/
Now to be clear.... I do also collect images of both og Powell ripper skateboards and also ripper spoof decks and even hand painted 1/1 tribute decks, but this thread was to focus on the art and products it ends up on and the impact this iconic image has had, what it means to you or the memories it brings back, not just about ripper skateboards.
Just in case you need to see 1252 images of ripper skateboards, click here: http://s1014.photobucket.com/albums/af261/GatorALLin/
...Keep Rippin Hank.....you get the first free ripper calendar when I get anything made up in the future.... Vapors, I got you down for #2....(btw using the chili peppers for finger bones was so brilliant!). I can't wait to tell you about #3.... |

thanks man! we ran a handful of ripper ripoffs for the riders and never sold them since it wasnt a unique design. I actually dont have one since I "gave" it to you! |

...before we give a "Keep Ripping Thank You!" to our #3.... thought it might be wise to take a quick moment and define the details that makes a ripper a ripper...
Here is a nice sample that came from the rip the ripper show..
Most seem to tear out and look a bit to the right.... but even that detail is up for change... A key feature is of course tearing or ripping out and there seems to need to be two hands coming through as well, but not always the case. Here are a few more that are on the edge of not being a ripper....and still are and a few that are close but no cigar...
See what you think...??
I would say yes its a ripper..with a vato twist.
ummm...?.....No.....but nice fistbump.
1 hand, but clearly still a ripper theme...
next time you wave hello, please use all your fingers...
half a ripper...but you still get the point..
Close, but a no for me...
Close up.
Your resistance is futile!
Heck Yeah! Tokyo Ripper
Yetti Yeah....
Maybe some Jeff Phillips breakout in there..but Yeah this counts
Well........darn close...but a no at least for me.
if you want a baby ripper, try this...
and No.
