I'm looking into making a short run of decks and every deck manufacturer tells me that because of the detail & shading in the tip to tail artwork, that only a heat transfer can be done. The artwork is amazing and done by and old pro who had a hand in Brand X, Schmitt Stix, The Faction & Alva art among others, so I don't want to lose any of the appeal by going with Heat transfer. Can anyone shed some light on the main difference between the two? Here's a small section of the art. Thanks.

Hey x1124x,
Personally, I'd rather see it screened. The colors look better (brighter, more pop) when screened. It's more of an artform, rather than just printing something off on a big printer and sticking it on a deck.
With your art, they could break the shading into halftones and it'd come out fine. Personally, I just thing that screened art looks a lot better than HT. You're art is basically a three color screen. They'd print the white, then blue (in halftone), then Black (also in halftone). That would take care of the shading issue.
That is definitely some badass artwork. Don't suppose he'd want to do something for me?

That would awesome screened, but it might be a little harder than just your standard run. Hence the answers you've recieved from you print shops. But like Tim said, it can be done, and would look much better.
And yeah, does you friend have any more art for sale?

Ok, Now I'm getting somewhere. I just got off the phone with a company that can screen the artwork onto a single veneer using UV inks, then they press the deck & cut it out. Is there a difference between UV & other inks?
