I agree with a bit more flat. 10ft is gonna make for a quick ramp But hell...I'll ride whatever! |

Since you're close by, and since the masses have been grumbling about a get together, we should get you over and riding the beast and see what you think...
Sounds good, let me know! We finally have the perfect weather for it.
I have talked to a handful of "experts" and was advised 10-12 feet of flat with that transition should be good. I was a bit concerned too, but I do want to try and squeeze a spine in there. I might have to drive around to all the ramps I can think of with a tape measure. |

Haha that's cuz "experts" only need 10 ft.

Those guys may be experts but we are old and cantankerous. So we got that going for us....which is nice.
I say do whatever you want with the room you have. My ramp is only 2ft high with just under 8ft of flat and is super fast. I love it. |

LOL...good point, it has been a while since I have been at my best. I love fast ramps but I did a mock up because I very well may be overestimating my potential at this age/skill level.
I went and checked out 5 ramps/parks today: san leandro has a cement mini and 3/4 bowl. The mini is about 5' tall with 12'8" of flat. Tranny appears to be about 7'4". The bowl is 5' tall with wider trannies and 11' flat at it's narrowest....what I learned: shitty, inconsistent trannies dont teach you much.
De Fremery park in Oakland has 3 ramps: a <4' mini w/6ish feet of flat; a 5' tall mini with 8'4" of flat, and another ramp that is too big for me right now so I ignored it (plus surface is jacked plywood so I cant even ride it to get an opinion).
The 5 footer has too little flat, I would have wanted 10 or 11 for sure. Tough to judge also because the ramp is too narrow for the height.
San Ramon has a bowl with a spine, I think I'll try to get out there and take some measurements. If I am going to stay with the spine idea I may go down to 4'6" or something to make the amount of flat work. |

Just because the volcom ramp was 5'9 doesn't mean yours has to be 5'9. Just because the kids like spines doesn't mean you need a spine. Just because old guys say you need more flat doesn't mean you need more flat.
Make a ramp that makes you happy, whatever that is.
My ideal ramp would be a nice wide 4 tall foot slow tranny cruiser with some big juicy extensions here and there and some non giant conky ass coping. but that my dream ramp, and possibly nobody else's. A big juicy bowled out corner?? Hell ya... Now we're talkin wet dreams tho...
You gotta figure out what will bring you the most pleasure, and take it from there... |
