Is it cool Artwork?
Is it the rider that the model was made for?
Does the brand name make a difference or do you get a deck from a small nothing brand if it has sick artwork on it? |

for me, its a combination of artwork and nostalgia. either a deck i had, or wanted to have but never did.
one thing i've noticed since embarking on this old skateboard journey, the decks i had was because of shape/company, the decks i wanted was because of artwork. |

I first and foremost look for what I skated when I was a kid: Schmitt Lucero X2, Sims Staab witch, Powell Snakeskin McGill mini, Vallely Barnyard, G&S Blaize Blouin Faces, etc.
Well, since I cant afford most of those; I stick with ANTI HERO, my all time favorite team. I wouldnt have a dollar to my name if I just bought any board that had awesome artwork.....and I have too many favorite riders so that would never work either! |

I buy based most frequently on
1.) What I had when I was young
2.) Graphics
3.) Skater
4.) Company
For instance, I bought a Jason Jesse sun god for the graphics and rider, Scott Bourne liberty deck for rider, company, graphics and a Mcgill cuz I rode it when I was young, a Black Label Hensley red cross for the rider. So for me it varies.

Bourne is you favorite, Chris? Any particular reason? I think it's cool that you dig someone other than Vallely and Jason Lee. |

I like Scott because of his skating for one, because he does gnarly stuff, skates everything yet doesnt feel compelled to do the newest tricks that are deemed cool (not among older people like us, but the typical 12-18 skateboard audience). He brings some intelligence to skateboarding. Also, I like his writing a lot, and when his book comes out, I'm sure people will be surprised. Also, with Jeremy Fish doing the graphics for UnBelievers, they are some of the coolest out there right now in my opinion.

Yeah, I like when an interview with him pops up once every 3 years. Very interesting fellow with a bit 'o brains in his head.
We both like Andy Roy so no need to explain there! |
