It remains quite clear that the deck was in fact white when the clock was installed and I doubt they painted and screened it after that point.

The darker rectangle around the clock is throwing things off and making the clock area appear lighter than it is. Cover the darker rectangle with a finger and see how the contrast lessens dramatically.

Also, in the picture I quoted you can see the difference in sparkle between the base white (none) and the gold mist (sparkly).

And as for the lacquer theory, yellow =/= gold.

my 2ยข:

Punker's was originally white, shellacked, and yellowed.

The Weli in question I believe is in fact a Gold dip. Why is that so hard to believe seeing as how silver dips are pretty common?

I don't have any real fact to base this on, just my guess from looking at all the pics at hand. Gold, along with a handful of other colors, is very difficult to accurately photograph.

Besides the huge hole in the shnozz, its a really cool deck.

Lacquer would also yellow the skull.

Gold pearl sprayed over white dip?

edit for already-answered question

Sticks, The scratched off area appears to be raw white bonite material, which I believe is like masonite or fiberboard.

I think it looks uneven because I had to tilt the deck when photographing to get the glare away from the center of the deck. The nose is not uneven.

Looks like the pearlescent white colour to me, but been hanging in a pack-a-day smoke filled room for 20 years.

I have a pearlescent white S+S skeleton background and the finish sparkles just the same but doesn't looks so dirty.

Deech - I think you're off.

1- wouldnt the skull be dirty/browned/yellowed too if it were indeed dirty from a smoke filled room

2- wouldnt the dark spot under the clock guts be lighter if in fact it were dirty/browned from being in a smoke filled room

3- doesnt the dark spot under the guts kinda give clue that the deck was indeed a darker color originally and faded from light over time (as it doesn't seem to have a really dark saturated color, although the gold sparke is apparent to me)

I just don't see why it's so hard to accept that its a gold dip...

And why you wouldn't want to trade it to me....

Is it at all possible that the board was painted white, but was discovered to have some sort of flaw at the paintshop, then coated with some transparent/translucent gold flake, screened, and made into a clock?
