It could also be an old ass shellac over white as well, because that's what I'm thinking was done with this full dragon Cab. Check it out:

Thanks for posting new pics. It remains quite clear that the deck was in fact white when the clock was installed and I doubt they painted and screened it after that point.

Wikipedia on shellac:
In the early- and mid-20th century, orange shellac was used as a one-product finish (combination stain and varnish-like topcoat) on decorative wood paneling used on walls and ceilings in homes, particularly in America. In this application, it lends an extremely warm, inviting, homely glow.
It is the central element of the traditional "French polish" method of finishing furniture, and fine viols and guitars.
Shellac was historically used as a protective coating on paintings. |

I can easily be biased too because then I got this ULTRA rare GOLD Full Dragon Cab. So, I know exactly what you are saying. I actually hope you are right....cause then mine would be rare too. So, I'll be keeping an eye on this thread. Maybe some lurking industry old timers can confirm or debunk the questions being raised. It would indeed be something. |
