I must tell you guys, in my city there is a famous hole-in-the-wall to buy huge rotis filled with fries called Johnnies.
They sell all kinds of South African Indian food - mutton, chicken etc but there is one item you won't find on the menu, you have to ask for it by name because it's made of scraps and meant for the lowliest factory worker's lunch meal.
It's called a Skumba (Skoom Buh) and it's just a roti full of boiled chicken skins - no deep frying here!
A normal meal there would set you back about the equivalent of $4 but the Skumba comes in at a recession-friendly 50c! |
