I gave up the tastey nectar known as Mountain Dew Four months ago.....I have developed a taste for Ice Tea....but the Bottled stuff is expensive and perhaps crappy.....anyone have some advice on how I can brew my own?.......looking to shed some calories...but I like both sweetened and unsweetened......Thanks. |

lots of stuff makes good tea, most summer garden herbs work great.
sun tea is the best in the summer but takes all day. I like sassafras root, mints, sage and lemon balm in my teas in the summer... super stimulant and gets your heart rate up to help you sweat and stay cooler.
Use stevia in very small amounts to sweeten, it's non-fattening and very sweet. |

Back in the day of roomates and stuff- one guy got an ice tea brewer for his birthday- that thing was great. You had to constantly pack it full of ice and all- but that stuff was great. I've been thinking of getting one lately...
So yeah, I usually like the sweetened stuff, but the stuff we brewed was unsweetened and so good. Damn, I need one of these things! |

this is how we do it in south carolina. to make 4 quarts of sweet ice tea, you need 3-4 family size tea bags. i like lipton or luzianne. boil water, not too much enough to fill a tea kettle is fine. pour the boiling water in the pitcher. put tea bags in pitcher and let them soak in the boiling water for for 15-20 min. remove the tea bags, mix in 1-1.5 cups of sugar. depending on how sweet you like it. fill pitcher up to the 4 quart line with cold water and mix. pour over ice with lemon if you want.
if you like it stronger, use more tea bags and let it soak longer. if you like it sweeter, use more sugar. you can use equal, saccahrin, any kind of sweetner. the sugar i use is dixie crystals.
i never made sun tea, so i dont know shit about that.
enjoy. |
