I know SOMEBODY on here drinks more than brews..
so basically we have a FUCKTON of cherry plums that are gettin ripe.. i got about 10lbs earlier and thats not even an 1/8th of the tree... so my buddy goes "You know, my uncle makes plum wine". So i figured id try it!
Ive looked around.. and it seems most people say either i need to get a ton of enzymes & chemicles and shit OR not need much but ill have to scoop off mold and let it sit racked for like 6 months.
Basically.. im just gonna get a bucket or two with lids, and then get some airlocks from a place in SF.. and use that as a carboy. no $50 glass or plastic jug for me. im broke(hence homemade booze)
so anybody that homebrews/home.... wines? i dunno whatever.. does that, wanna help a brother out?
i dont wanna resort to pie or tarts. |

You could market that stuff just like Activia. Catch a buzz and stay regular. |

I haven't made any in awhile, but I've made home made wine. I've done cherry, strawberry, and elderberry. I've never tried plum though.
The type I made went the scooping of mold route. It's basically letting your fruit ferment for about a week. I'd have to find my recipe to be for sure. Then you add a sugar/water mixture to the juice after the fermentation process. You put the juice/sugar/water mixture in a glass jug. You can add some whiskey for additional alcohol content. You put a cork with a hole in it in the jug. Place a hose through the cork in the jug and place the other end of the hose in a bottle of water. That allows the gas to escape the wine while it's brewing/fermenting.
I was taught to let it brew for at least a year, although it may not be actually fermenting the entire time. Others may disagree on the amount of fermenting time.
It's not a fast process. |

Hmmmm... so what ive gathered is:
-fond memories of prison, eh guys?
-Google?? what the hell is that?? ive NEVER used google before.. let alone when im researching something like this.
-Thanks for the info, Strohs! thankfully ive got some more time to figure it out.. ive got like 20lbs now.. and theres a TON left on the tree. im probably gonna end up with around 10 gallons, idealy.
Im gonna go down to SF Brewcraft this week to pick up some plugs and airlocks(hello, sterilized Home Depot buckets.. youre so much cheaper.) Im sure it wont hurt to talk to one of the guys.. im sure if i explain what i wanna do and what my budget is they can help set me up.
Ill keep yall posted as it goes, i guess! with any luck ill get bombed none too far off.. id at least like to have it ready by october.. give some out for my sis' wedding. |
