The 7th edition of skateboard festival ‘Oerend Hard’ will take place from 31 July till 2 august 2009. For 3 days the skatepark, located in the recreational park ‘Het Hulsbeek’ in Oldenzaal will be the place to be for skateboard aficionados of the Netherlands and abroad. The unique setup of the skatepark, the beautiful surroundings as well as the extraordinary contest disciplines truly make ‘Oerend Hard’ a one of a kind skateboard event.
This year’s edition has a real special touch to it: The skatepark in ‘Het Hulsbeek is having its 30 year anniversary! The skatepark was build in 1979 and is therefore one of the first skateparks build in Europe. Internationally the skatepark played a prominent role in the development of the skateboarding. Nowadays the skatepark is internationally known. Especially the ‘snakerun’, which itself is legendary. It is a winding course with a lot of corners and bumps, which allows the skateboarders to go really fast. The course might even be declared a monument; at the moment the local council has this possibility under serious consideration.
The contest will take place on Saturday and Sunday afternoon, and consists of several disciplines. ‘Oerend Hard’ is local slang for extremely fast, so not surprisingly 3 out of 6 disciplines are all about speed. To ensure the skaters will charge the course ‘Oerend Hard’, a 3 meter quarter pipe will be placed as a start for the snakerun. At the ‘Snakerun Speed’ the fastest skater will win. The skaters to beat in this discipline are Dennis Hemmekam (5 times champion) and Axel Oude Munnink (local talent).
With the ‘Snakerun Boardercross’ it is also about the fastest time on the course, only now it will be with 3 skaters simultaneously. From start till finish anything goes to beat your opponents. Next to the snakerun is the downhill, where the discipline ‘Catamaran’ will be held. Two skaters will be sitting opposed to each other with their feet on each other’s skateboard. They will get a firm push down the slope, which instantly gives them a huge amount of speed. At the bottom the catamaran will fly through the finish and most of the times through the air as well! A spectacle is guaranteed. Of course the fastest duo will win. At the ‘Best line Downhill Banks’ skaters will show their best tricks on the banks on the side of the downhill. At the ‘Jump ramp’ discipline the skaters use a jump ramp to launch themselves into spectacular aerial tricks. Some skaters are known to reach an altitude of no less then 2,5 meters on this ramp! The last discipline is ‘Best Trick Bank ‘n Bumps’, where it’s all about technical tricks on the lower part of the skatepark.
At ‘Oerend Hard’ young and old skaters gather in a festive atmosphere. The beautiful surroundings of ‘Het Hulsbeek’, with its old trees, grass fields to chill on and the swim lake form the stage of the three day festival. DJ’s (Captain Redbeard and Wat een Lul) ensure the right atmosphere. The contestants and visitors can camp on the campsite right next to the skatepark.
