I have screens with no emultion on them.

I plan on using a scoop coater to put the emultion on, and I've never done it before ... just wondering if there are any tips or tricks to doing it.

Ummmmmm.....

TSP is your friend (Degrease the screen first)

Thin coats, 3 is good (up, across, up)

Look for "sparkle" on the inside of the screen, not "wet" (don't push too much emulsion too far into the mesh, your resolution will get fuzzy)

and above all...

it's not rocket science, go play...

Just clean it up, after you rubbed one off. Then the screen should be fine. Use a towel in the future or something like that, and you should not have such problems. If you need more tips or tricks, a skateboard forum is probably the wrong place to look for!

And keep the announcement, when you are planning it for the next weekend! Yuck!

here's a trick tip since you have never coated a screen before.

after you pull your emulsion to the top of your screen.

make sure you tip your screen and coater back vertical so all the emulsion goes back in before you lift the coater off the screen.

you will see. takes one good time and you'll learn.

and don't forget to take the plastic off the edge...

-Is your emulsion pre mixed?

i buy a gallon at a time with sensetizer separate. then mix a quart at a time measuring the sensetizer with a gram scale (2 tablespoons to 3 grams sensetizer) but that's for chromaline udc-2 though. Store your unused portion in the fridge it will stay gooder longer.

--also make sure there's no nicks or scratches in the scoop edge.

I start a coat up the squeegee side

-flip the screen end over end and coat the print side

-then turn it 180 degrees and do a last coat on the squeegee side.

--Everybody has their own way/style, most importantly before coating use lots of water to rinse away any cleaners/ink residue. if the water "cascades" or flows real smooth down the screen your good to go. Let screens dry in the horizontal position.

My 4 cents --- have fun the first time will be a little messy (like sex)

Yeah. Degrease first.

I do 3 coats. 2 on the squeegee side, one on the print side.

thanks guys - this is exactly what I wanted to hear.

I believe the emultion I have is premixed.

The screens are new, unused screens.
