It's like goopy ketchup with a hint of banana - Common Filipino condiment used like ketchup...once you hit that up, go for some Mang Tomas, which I prefer- great with your lechon kewali (Fried Pork Belly).

Have 2 Filipina coworkers that introduced me to their cuisine. Coco Jam was one the new best things that I had no idea existed. Totally ridiculously good...like coconut peanut butter.

I've got all the Filipino restaurants and groceries mapped out, so if anything is needed it's an easy grab. Watch out for Bagoong.

Thanks lilsheeda..

I have no clue who turned me on to the stuff (I have not tried it [AFAIK], yet, my guess someone I used to bowl with in Torrance) but I was cleaning out very old bookmarks.. wow.. I decided to bite..

Here is a link I found..

And Balut.

Funny I've never heard of this stuff. One of my best friends is Filipino.

The only Filipino item in my kitchen is Patis.

That Coco Jam sounds good.

Yeah it does. Not to totally change the subject but have you tried 'maple butter', the coco jam reminded me of it, shits like crack...

Yeah if ever in Glendale, hit up Max's Fried Chicken- they've got some really good made to order Filipino food. Bicol Express is top shelf goodness. Basically fried pork belly with coconut milk/bagoong/chilis.

Other places here in Torrance/Carson are buffet type and lack a bit of the soul...but still interesting and can be good if in the mood for some heavy stewy meals.

And ate up some coco jam and bread last night...
