The Redskins?? Rather a word play on "red" (as in the "socialist red" color) and "skinheads" from an era when not every bandname was checked upon political correctness. I remember a skatebuddy of mine listening a lot to them back in the day, and mentioning their "red" ideas…
To be fair - not a case of one of Dale's right wing bands. Quite the opposite.
As for Marduk… didn't know them, but the revering comments from white pride morons on youtube made me double-check… seems to me the band doesn't sport the iron cross for the sole reason of tying a knot to the "rebellish" symbolism (yeah, I know, surfers in the 60s, bikers, later on skaters etc… I know, I know - and guess what, I did it myself in a 60's style surfband over a decade ago) - but they seem to identify with the Nazi ideas that come with it.
From wikipedia : "In a 1995 fanzine interview, the guitarist named Håkansson spoke out against immigration to Sweden in the name of the band and said he was proud that his grandfather had served as a German officer during the Second World War."
The recent single "Werwolf" doesn't really help either (and nope, you cannot reduce the message of the lyrics to the diabolical figure of a 'werewolf' - it's put in the context of war, nation ("our flag lies bleeding on the ground") and conquering… "Werwolf" refers to Himmler's plan at the end of WWII!).
Maybe they're more of a "dumb" band than anything else. Maybe they're a Nazi band that knows when to shut up in order to still be able to ca$h in. I don't know.
So… whatever. |
