Yeah, I got orange OJ rails which came with short wood screws. So they went in easy I drilled smaller holes maybe 1/4" deep but not through just so it looks clean up top where there's no griptape. Not sure if they will hold...we'll see. I still have a few rusty Ratnuts if need be. |

They will not. That's why I asked. I gave up rails for the time being. |

Yeah, I don’t get the warm fuzzies the small screws will hold up, however, I’m not as hard on my boards anymore and probably won’t put this setup through abuse like I use to.
My method of installing rails and skidplates has been the same since the late-80s when I bought a box of #8 x 3/4” zinc woodscrews, and I always install before I grip. For rails, I’ll mark the hole locations and drill through the board. The screws go in rail side so the heads hold the rails on, and the screw tips will end up sticking out through the top. I’ll grind the tips down to board level then grip which finishes the job looking pro. I’ve never had a rail/screw pull out.
For skidplates, I have a drill bit that mimics the screws and countersinks the heads when you drill. I’ll clamp the skidplate on then drill the holes on top the board and install the screws from the top so the heads sit flush, then grip to hide the screws. On another note, if the skidplate is too big/wide I’ll install it so it sits flush with the “end” of the deck, then scribe the skidplate with the deck edge, remove it, cut it around the scribe, sand the edge smooth, then reinstall so the skidplate looks like it was made to fit the shape of the tail.
I didn't do this for the OJ rails because I cut the grip to show the top graphic and didn't want the screws to show. I posted pics on another thread...https://www.skullandbonesskateboards.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=33716&start=6290 |
