First saw this in Thrasher, great job! Would love to volunteer for something like this - to learn how to do it as well as something gnarly to ride. Inspiring stuff.
Hope Snowman is okay. Sounds like everyone was overtired from working on it and lack of sleep, thats usually when shit like that happens. |

this project has been an inspiration for me and a few other guys here in Miami. We've been proposing a park for Miami for a little while now, and have recently made some headway in gaining the approval of land use for a DIY park and are also enlisting in volunteerism for building the park if/when a location is approved. I've used the Sculpture Park as a point of interest in many meetings with commissioners so far and they all love it. I'm hoping politics can take a back seat and civic mindedness can remain in the foreground. |

Lance Mountain came to skate the Matthew Barney board.
The deck was to be used as an extension of one of Matthew Barney's drawing restraint art action/performances. The deck once ridden by Lance becomes the prop/relic/art object by Matthew Barney...
Here are some random iphone shots outside the act of the performance...
I'll tell you what; the dude that bought that deck has no clue what a decade or two is gonna do to the value of that thing.
Damn, I should've bought it...kicks self |

what a shame this place got f'ed up with the grafiti... it seems like when you're doing something like this, (building a skatepark for the community) there should be some respect for the end result. oh well. maybe they did it themselves. looks like crap either way. rant over. |

^ Yeah, they're not happy about it.
Although it is in the ghetto, there is no real supervision and it is suppose to have a more DIY bent. I guess it shouldn't be a surprise.
They spent a big chunk of change dying the concrete so it is disappointing. Plus as Lance said it screws with the riding surface.
Funny thing and probably not so surprising; all the really good graffiti that has shown up around the park has been on surrounding walls of larger buildings. Seems the quality painters have more respect. |

^ late update...
Also, a couple weeks back had a Thrasher tour come through.
Ben Raybourn smashed himself in the cranium...he flew home.
I guess the spot is getting on circuit.
Some Florida guys were there a week ago, trying to build a park...PAWN people? |

The Tony Hawk Foundation decided to throw down for my Buddy Mitch's DIY. It's the first private yet public skatepark that they've been able to assist.
Sorry for the bad shot: Tony planting it near the edge of the jungle.
Its surreal to see my friend since childhood finding the support of a hero/peer.
Mitch and Tony:
Second phase of construction is to occur this fall. |
