Ok new guy here, sorry for the bump. I need you're collective knowledge of the almighty indy. Did stage 7's ever have the iron cross on them? Are stage 7 & 8 baseplates geometrically the same?
According to the indy website circa 2001 stage 7 & 8 were, for a brief period, sold at the same time. As you can see in the link, only 156, 166, and 215's were available while the stage 8's covered the smaller sizes. In the picture of the stage 7, it looks like an iron cross on there but kind of looks smudged out or something. Like they tried to photoshop it out. I'm in the process of procuring a set of indy's with obviously stage 7 hangers and baseplates with the iron cross on em. The seller used to sell indy's and says that was how it came. I'm inclined to believe him. I need your help fellas.

Ehh not quite but it's a very nice reference. If any one has stage 7 and 8 baseplates to compare, that would be helpful. I just need to know if they're the same aside from the cross stamp. |

It does state that the iron cross was added to the baseplate at Stage 8.
All the best with your search. |

Cross was on Stage 8. Stage 7 and 8 had some significant differences. Baseplates will likely "work" but the angles are not the same—there is potential of catastrophic failure. |

Not to doubt you Slob, but is that really true under normal circumstances?
I mean, if a Stage 6 hangar is used with a Stage 8 baseplate, that could lead to a "catastrophic failure"? Assuming both pieces were cast properly, with no defects, and the trucks were maintained with proper bushings and pivot cups, and not grinded or anything?
I just find it difficult to believe that only the mismatched stages alone could be the only cause, so many of us here have ridden on mismatched stages for years with no problems. |

I've seen where Slob has said this before, but I've never found it to be true. Mixing & matching may not be perfect, but it will work just fine. I'm currently using two sets of older, earlier stage 215 hangers with the new forged DH baseplates & they work great!

Mike, I've also used the forged /DH bases with older 215's, and on a pair of Stage II 151's as well, and I never had a problem. And I've also used mixed stage hangars and bases with no issues at all.
But then, I don't go balls to the wall like some skaters do. |
