Don't forget to skip the beach and head to Joshua Tree - it will add many a hour, but still my favorite stop.

The 101 at Big Sur can get tedious with the curves and bikers at every corner, so I recommend breaking it up and chilling. We enjoy camping in the area...

You can find some pretty cool spots on airbnb off the grid.
Or check Leo Carrillo for camping next to the beach in Malibu. Pretty awesome if you wanted to "rough it".

Leo Carillo is bad ass. Down the road is Duke's in Malibu - good place to eat

Damnedest thing seen there...major storm 10'+ surf, rocks galore (The fall storm a few falls back- took me 4 hours to get to long beach because of traffic and surf watchers and riders.

Waves were pitting deep right at the rock...maybe 2am pitch black, a freaking glow in the dark body boarder takes off and rides the whole damn thing (long long long wave) all the way to shore. I think it was breaking twice. Completely unbelievable. The waves were insane during the day, let alone at 2am?

Yeah Joshua is awesome indeed. We did that three years ago so gonna skip that this time. We'll come back within a few years anyway to revisit the parks we definitely want to see again and the ones we missed out like Zion, Death Valley, ....
Thx for the advice about the 101 & Leo Carillo.

What spots did you go to, which ones did you enjoy, etc?

We did loads of stuff and lots of them where absolutely amazing. I''l try to make it "short".
We went to Seattle downtown witch was great visiting, visited sci-fi & Nirvana museum there witch was really cool! We did snoqualmy falls and some other Twin Peaks highlights as the wifey is a Twin Peaks fan, we did Mt Rainier national park witch was really amazing and multnomah falls. Not stunning but was nice to see. We were bummed though not having the time to do Olympic national park so we have to go back there some day.
We did SF witch we did before a few years ago. Great city but too much tweakers over there. Wifey didn't like those. Especially when we ended up without knowing in the Tenderloin area. Pretty disturbed neighbourhood at night.
We went to see a baseball game at AT&T park witch was a really great experience.
We saw some whales and dolphins verry close to the shore at a beach near Monterrey. Forgot the name of the place but that was really amazing to see.
We went to the Vans outlet in San Luis. We did Pismo beach, Avilla beach witch was really nice and Moro bay skatemuseum witch was also nice to visit. At Santa Barbara we visited Powell Peralta skateshop and skatOne factory. Wasn't planned anything but before I knew I ended up meeting VCJ witch was really great!
Then we went to LA where we did Santa Monica, Venice beach, Hollywood, Beverly hills, Universal studio's & the skatelab museum at Simi Valley.
Santa Monica was nice to do but too fucking crowded over there. Venice was really cool to see because of it's history and found some great spots such as the ex-Zephyr shop and all that but damn, so many drugaddicts walking the streets there. Bevely Hills, Hollywood and all that stuff was nice to see but not really my cup of tee. Universal Studio's was a great park to visit though but damn, they let too much people in there to keep it enjoyable. And LA traffic sucks big time by the way. Mostly when the GPS said like 15 minutes we ended up in 45 minutes most of the time. Anyway we had a great time in LA after all. Long beach was cool to visit as well.
San Diego was absolutely awesome! Great vibe in that city! Nice beaches and cool to do a drive in movie first time of our life as that stuff doesn't exist here in Belgium....
As some of you guys said, spend more time in San Diego and now I know why.
Cheers!

I love how you use 'witch' instead of 'which' Chris.
And I'm not being a smartarse. Don't change it.
It's cool.
Glad you had such a great trip.

Sounds like a terrific trip! California is definitely crowded.

Looks like you checked some cool stuff off the list. Stoked for you.

I hope you got to sample some of California's wonderful Mexican food.
