Gave some kid a set of wheels and bearings yesterday. My buddy and I went to an indoor skatepark in Pittsburgh, first time I've skated in a month since the really cold weather set in. Before we left I saw this colored boy trying to setup a deck, and from what my buddy told me later, he didn't know what he was doing as a guy at the shop had to tell him to turn his one truck the other way since it was on backwards. When I saw his wheels they were so big and old school 70s-like square corners and all. Earlier I replaced my Ricta 101s with some 95a Nomads I brought just in case, and I switched them cause i thought the 95s would give me better grip (didn't notice a difference imo). Anywhoo, I couldn't help but give the wheels to the kid so he had a better setup. The deck was a beat up scrap from a pile of used boards and if I had my spare with me i'd've given that to him also.
I'd've helped the kid with putting everything together, but I had just slammed hard and was done and wanted to get out of there. Nothing like slamming the wind out of ya, not being able to get up, and having almost everyone else surround you asking if yer OK. Glad I was wearing a helmet too. |
