Yeah Sniping sucks but it's the only way to get anything on ebay and we all know it.

Coming from an Italian and Irish background I'm always torn with what to do on Ebay. Do I pull the Irish method by sitting on a rooftop and watch the bidding from a distance and then at the last second take the head off of the highest bidder...

or do I go the Italian way... walk in shooting, email other bidders telling them I'll kill their family if they don't bugger off, and then when it's all over wind up getting shot at the last minute JUST as I thought I was going to get out with my life.

Ebay... everytime I think I'm out they keep Drrrrragging me back in.

I remember one day when there was 666 total skateboard items in my Ebay search.. Now there's that many pair of skate shoes..

Anybody that gets pissed off at somebody biding in the last seconds of an Ebay auction is silly.. Bid what you think it's worth and if somebody wants to pay more, move on to the next auction.. I'll wait to bid in the last minute if I'm home at that time. I have forgot and missed bidding this way, but I didn't really want it that bad anyways..

But there was this one B&W checkerboard deck I really wanted bad.. I missed it because I took my wife to dinner that night.. Gawd I was pissed off at myself..

Who got that one?

Outt..
Jeff.

yo- fuck that guy in his neck for that bullshit email! "report you to ebay"... god, i hope you dont get detention and miss recess! i agree w/ tim- tell him to jump in a river. actually, if anything, YOU could report HIM to ebay for the mail as you did absolutely nothing "illegal"(what a joke of a word for this application) and he is "harrassing" you.

i recently got a nice mail from a young man who wasnt pleased w/ my bids on those powell pigs that were up. i am including it for your pleasure(or annoyance?) he goes by vatik 7. hell, maybe he visits here? oh, well....

"dude you have to stop bidding early, everytime you bid early it costs me and you more $$$$$$$$$. why do you do this. it looks like you have been on ebay for a while. you should have learned by now. this is how you do it bid once low and then watch to see if people bid so they wont keep bidding until they beat you. if you bid high someone else will keep bidding until they beat you, then you bid again then i bid, then you bid again then some other loser. my point is your(sic) pushing up the bids for no reason. please explane(sic) to me if you do have a reason. the only reason i can think of is you have two accounts and that there(sic) your boards for sale. i want one of the four boards that guy is selling so please please please learn."

and my reply-and i even give him two options.

"SCENARIO #1
oh dear ebay authority,

please, please, please forgive me for my uncouth bidding style on these auctions. if i would have known the way it works i would have never have done as i did. and on top of that, i have deeply offended you in the vulgar process. shame on me. its a real bummer that you, too, want some of these boards, isnt it? and with all these assholes like myself putting in bids on auctions for items they want, well, it just doesnt make any sense. did you mail "bigbudniles" yet? i think he is ALMOST as stupid as myself when it comes to bidding on boards he wants. he does have a unique way of winning them too- he bids the highest! and sometimes he doesnt even put his winning bids in by sniping. strange character he is.

so, in closing i want to reitterate how deeply sorry i am for bidding in a fashion that you find so unbelievably remedial- especially on items that YOU want to get.

sincerely,
GRIME
SCENARIO #2

FUCK YOU! for implying that i am selling these boards and trying to "up" the prices. i hate fuckers that do that. and for my bidding stlye on these auctions- i will do whatever the fuck i want! you dont think i've played the "lay low and snipe" style? even if myself and EVERYONE else snipes ONLY the high bidder wins! i am simply bidding this way to let people know i am after the board. believe it or not i have a few friends that wont bid against me- so stop acting like i am "got_wood" and cry a river somplace else.
sincerely,
GRIME"

i think we got off on the wrong foot as we havent spoken again.

Grime,

What's the deal with all the whiners lately? I got this message not too long ago:

From member: hi-****

If this note pisses you off, understand that it is not my intention in the least.

Ive been watching and bidding on old skater stuff for a while now. I always keep an eye on things that interest me. That means mostly 70s stuff since thats when I skated the most.

But you guys are killing me. Is it bravado? The need to be top bidder all the time? Every time I look at new auctions, and handful of you guys feel the need to drive things up past what they should go for. And for what? To drive others away? To pay more than you should? Items come up for sale and you jump on them with both feet. As if its going to disappear all of a sudden. I just dont get it at all. Im noticing a lot of NOS stuff come along lately. It comes up all the time for that matter. I pay what I feel is right for an item. I like to bid at the end to maybe get it for myself. Im not a collector. I skate this stuff. I dont hang these things on a wall. They were not meant to be on the wall. They were meant to skate. OK, so maybe I see things differently that you guys do. But consider this if you will.

These items will come along again. Have no fear of this. These things are everywhere in this country. I know this for a fact. To drive an item up so high just to be high bidder is complete folly. Dont you guys know how to snipe at the end? Its not illegal in the least. Heres an example. Sims Pure Juice wheels come up all the time. NOS ones come up mostly. Notice a trend? There are a ton of em thats why. Do you need to pay 100.00 for a set? Let it go to the end and bid then. You dont scare people off all the time. If I want something, Ill pay what I think is right for an item. I may pay more if its something I really want as well. But you guys give people the idea that this stuff is worth far more than it is. No sour grapes here at all. I have all the boards I could ever want. More than I need frankly. But there are certain items I would like to have. When I come home from work at night, I sit and look at the new itemes up. I see the same IDs all over the place. Nors!
ki has it right. He bids at first, and lets it go for the duration. Then, if he really wants it, he bids at the end. Most of you guys bid it up to the point where its over what anyone is willing to pay. How deep are some of your pockets? I see stories of guys selling gear because they cant pay for what theyve won. Im not saying any of you do that. But geez looweez. I just dont get it at all. How many pairs of Trackers do you need? All I want is another pair so I can race slalom this coming summer. I use small pivot Fultracks because frankly they are the best. But I refuse to pay collectors prices to get another ste.

OK, so maybe I do have a case of sour grapes on a few items. My girl wants to set up her quad skates with Henry Hester RRs. I know, it seems silly. She has planty of money too. She can afford what she likes. But Ill be darned if you guys havent driven them up beyond the point of no return. She has more money than brains [like some of you], and shell get 2 NOS sets for her skates I assure you of that. But why cant we all get them at a good price? Why must I constantly shake my head as items skyrocket past what Im willing to pay? I know this is an auction house. I know Im supposed to bid what I think is my limit and live with it. But it seems that there is an ego thing here as well.

K, thats all I have to say about this. Bid as you like and have a great time paying more than you should. You all look a little silly to me. You dont look like savvy buyers. Just a bunch of guys who need their ID as the high bidder.

Feel free to comment. Write back with nasty letters if you must. But take what Ive said to heart. Cant we all get what we want?

Bob F****

EBay ID hi-****

Unfortunately I don't have a copy of my response here. Hopefully I still have it at work.

Basically I told him that it's none of his business how or what I bid on. I have no idea why he picked me as far as driving up the prices on Trackers or Hesters. I told him to search what I was bidding on and he would see that I normally bid low (often the first bid at the minimum amount) and watch to see if the item is in the range that I'm willing to pay when the auction is nearing its end. If I am still interested I bid again at the very end. If I win, great! If not, I was not willing to pay as much as the other guy(s). No big deal. As far as the Hesters go. I told him that I'm in no way responsible for the high prices. Blame Henry himself, for being popular. Blame a free market economy. Why the hell is this guy gonna buy 2 mint sets of Hesters for his girlfriends fruit boots? What a fucking waste...

I also got a whining e-mail about "sniping" a Foil Tail recently. For all I know, the person is a regular here, so I'll leave him nameless. If I'm willing to pay more, I win. It doesn't matter when or how many times I bid. If I ever e-mail any of you crying about your tactics, please put me out of my misery.

Bottom line: If you want to whine about the prices or other people's bidding style, I suggest you back off on the hormone replacement treatments or go cry into your latest Cosmo!

hey tim, since you are the market value controller of ebay's skateboard paraphenalia i too want to know, "cant we all get what we want?" hahaha- what the fuck?!?! his letter was so long and so shitty- banal, if you will. maybe he should be introduced to the idea of supply and demand in a capitalist economy to explain why those hester boards are so expensive?

but hey, he repeatedly states he will pay what he feels an item is worth. thats why his grocery store only carries sour grapes.

Are you talking about that Olsen? That wasn't the one I missed on.. I like those too though but not for that kinda $$.

You know what's weird? As good a skater as Steve Olsen was, I have never seen any video footage of him.. Anybody know where I can see him some?

Outt..
Jeff.
