I asked these passing high school kids what happened to it and they looked at me like I was nuts. "what skatebowl???, there ain't never been a skatebowl here!"
hallam said that it had been filled in.
it was very cool and very scary to skate.
So I wonder how many parks in the US met this fate of just being covered over, and for future skate archaeologists to "re-discover"
RAIDERS OF THE LOST (SKATEP)ARK
That was the fate of Apple skatepark here in Columbus. Filled in, concreted over, and now it's a UPS facility. I guess you could take solice in the fact that there are still skateboards going through there albeit in boxes. |

Sun City/Spinnin' Wheels (Built To Grind title page) is actually just covered in tons of sand, with one corner covered in asphalt with metal modular ramps on it. It was a pretty crummy park, but it's still better than anything built now in NorCal. |

That's a Dreamland park. One of their oldest too. Most of their stuff is all one big flow/gnar zone (which are a bad idea I guess in Cali since their 1-2 rider at a time style or it's crash & burn time(!)

Haily, ID & Aumsville are a couple of my fav's.
I have a feeling once you check these out, you'll wanna come right up! |

I've been wondering how many parks were just buried as opposed to totally dozed. It had to be a cheaper alternative for someone anxious to close a park. I understand they dozed what was left of Falcon in WVa.But if you look at the pix,it was just filled in (hence the leftover portion-recently plowed) I would love to see just one park dug up somewhere.I guess with the new parks, we should be happy,though... |

I drive by the first indoor cement skatepark in Canada all the time. In '79 they knocked over everything that was above grade into the bowls and snake runs and filled the rest with gravel and cemented over it. Me and my bros often talk about buying the building and unearthing it -perfect banked slalom run, killer keyhole with cement coping, tile and love seats, cool round edge bowls, awesome bank area... it's just too bad the snake run was probably totally destroyed beyond repair in the process.
I'd buy it if I won the lottery. |
