he ollies and then grabs the board
That by definition, that makes it NOT an ollie.
Oh man...
How's about ollie to sad grab to fakie then? |

I don't know but a sad grab is pretty much the same to me like a melon. Sad or melon grab whichever way you want to call it.
Back to the photo/picture: Melancholy to fakie should be exact then. |

that is undoubtedly an ollie, what is an ollie? when you catch some air without pre grabbing the board through a technique involving the movement of the feet, the back one pushing the tail down, the front foot lifting the nose up.... what happens later does not kill what happened before, therefore you ollie and then grab the way you like, that's still an ollie, different from a simple air that involves a different movement of your feet and can also involve a pre grab.... that is clear in my mind, always knew it this way and guess it's hard to change my mind now after 30 years.... |

"Grabs" are what snowboarders do in imitating skateboard maneuvers.
Skateboarders don't do grabs. We have specific names for what we do and those words define what we do as skateboarders.
Ollie is a very specific maneuver—by definition there are no "grabs" in performing an ollie.
Apparently snowboarding has a maneuver they also call an ollie—which is patently fucking stupid. I believe this misuse of skateboard terms is the cause of much of this stupidity and worse it is a bastardization of skateboard terms.
Maneuvers in skateboarding, like the Ollie, are important. The Ollie caused a radical change skateboarding making skateboarding, well, much more radical.
Allen Gelfand invented the Ollie. The Ollie is an aerial maneuver in-which no hands or bindings are used.
I feel we must defend skateboarding and a big part of that is not allowing the bastardization of the nomenclature associated directly with skateboarding.
To allow such misuse of our terms harms skateboarding.
Don't even get me started on the bastardization of skateboard maneuvers by BMXicans...
It is a cool pic. That's some serious air. Nice painting too. But it ain't no fucking ollie. |

We used to put bike inner-tubes under our boards when we were little, and at the lip of the ramp, just pop up like a bunny hop . There were a few ways to do this, but basically you could pull off spins and hops with no grabs... anyone ever tried these silly shenanigans?
Found this recent vid of Daniel Espinoza rocking the tube... check it

The video instantly reminded me of Danny Way's part in the Plan B video Questionable. He did those tricks without inner-tubes though.
