Has anyone ever used the sheets of Elmusion instead of the liquid? Seems like it would be easier, no? |

Ok, well I coated my first screen In a long time this moring and I am not using a scoop coater and it was pretty messy. I am using what i could get at my local art store for now which was the Diazo Photo Emulsion kit and a regular squeege for coating. Maybe I was just using to much emlsion but It seemed that it took almost half of the 8 fl oz in the bottle to coat both sides nicely, does that seem right? |

you need to apply that emulsion as thin as possible. shouldn't take hardly any. coat both sides super thin. if you're using a squeegie to apply it, just keep squeegying it until it's super thin and remove any excess |

Oh, ok. Do you think i should pick up one of those scoop coaters? I hear some people like them some don't? I just printed my first few shirts and noticed that i have little speckles that are showing through on the image that should not be there (not a big deal but so i know how to correct this next time). Could this be from the way i caoted the screen with emulsion or lack of time drying ( I allowed 3 hours with a fan on the screen for drying) or did I wash out too much emulsion after exposing the design? Thanks again everyone. |

those are called pinholes, its parts of the emulsion that washed out, i had that first kid you had when i started, it shld have come with drawing fluid and screen filler, (brownish in color) take a paint brush and just fill in those holes and stick it in the sun or whatever your using to expose and you shld be good. As for emulsion coating, i still coat with a squeege, i like it way more than a coater. best way to do it is to find a squeeze bottle, shampoo bottle or whatever, clean it out, and put your emulsion in it. squeeze out a thin line the width of your squeege at the top of the screen and just drag the squeegee down. (same on other side. ) the more you do it, the better you will get at getting the right amount. (not too much, not to little) hope that helps.

Thanks alot Cody. I actually did not buy the bigger kit just the one with the Emulsion and the Emulsion remover. I will have to pick up some screen filler. Will this happen often, Is there a way to prevent it? I just went out and bought a yellow bug lite so i will be able to see what i am doing better now when coating the screen. What I did earlier was use a really dim flashlight with a paper towel over it out of the way so i could barely see. Also I am just using a heatgun right now to cure, I am eventually going to buy a flash unit but for now I got to do things this way. Does anyone know the proper amount of time for curing the ink with a heatgun? I have a gun that goes as high as 1350 F. Thanks agin for the help everyone, I would be lost without these forums! |
