Whats up guys.

Just burned some new screens over the long weekend. I did this knowing my emulsion might be out of date, so I said fuck it we'll see what happens. Coated, burned, and rinsed out my image, taped it up on the press and started to print. My print came out fine, then I go to wash out the screen and pulled off the masking tape after a good hosing.... the tape decided to pull away the emulsion as well. Shit, I have never seen this before... my screen is still useable, I taped it pretty wide for different board widths.

So I've been using this stuff since I started screening:

I really like it, but sometimes I might go a month without touching it from the fridge. I will continue to use sensitized emulsion because I hear it's the goods. But, if anyone could recommend something with a longer shelf life perhaps a good pre-sensitized that works well with water based inks.

thanks

ULANO QX1

This is the best stuff I have used. I used QTX for a long time, but QX1 holds better detail, exposes fast, lasts a year apparently, it's solvent resistant, and I have printed water based runs of about 150 with it and had no problems.

The wet strength of this emulsion is great, we do our screen washout with a pressure washer. When the screen comes off the exposure unit it gets wet on both sides and we let it sit for a few minutes rewetting each side every once and awhile. After about 1 or two minutes, stand about 3' away and spray the thing out. I have held 8pt type using flo. tubes with no problems, sim process? holds halftones great . . .

it's also like $48 a gallon up here in canada, versus $120 for QTX . . .

QX1 has been a complete and total godsend. It wasn't really the price which did it for me, when we charge $20 setup, if the emulsion is .30 or .90 cents it's not a big deal (though it makes a difference in theory). But when I was printing a shirt full of 8pt, super thin text and it wouldn't come out using the QTX, I tried the QX1 and there was no problems holding the detail. The thickness of the emulsion is great, if you do any sports printing you will now the benifits of a thick ink deposit. And it's a pretty blueish green colour

That is pre-sensitized, but it won't hold up to waterbased or solvent based ink. Go to QX1 and you will get a better emulsion for half the price.

www.screenprintcatalog.com

that's who I order from up here inCanada

One question about using the QX-1.

On the documentation that came with, it says to coat using a dark room light. I do have a yellow bug light, but not the red "dark room" light bulb. So, are you guys coating this stuff in any special lighting conditions?

I plan to do a couple of screens tonight, so any advice would be appreciated.

thanks

I bought a red flood light from home depot for like 6.00, srews in to a normal socket and have been using it for over 2 years, no problems what so ever,

it should be fine with your bug light

from my understanding you can coat in normal lighting conditions, as long as it's not direct sunlight and then can store in a dark room enviroment...
