163 Avalanche Kick Damian Sanders
I think I was like 13 or 14. It was one of the first double kicks if I remember correctly. Probably weighed more than me with highbacks up to my ass. |

burton backhill woody with metal scags....so stoked on that thing. I traded an old YZ80 for the snowboard and a surfboard.
I was only able to hike some hills and the natural halfpipe at baldy with it because snowboards weren't allowed in many places back then. Probably a good thing considering the back binding was pretty much a rubber band. The first real board I owned was a backhill 155. Mt. High was going to open on a saturday and as luck would have it, my parents were out of town. I threw a big party friday night and charged at the door. Made about $700 that night which was enough for a new board and sorels at chick's sporting goods and a lift ticket saturday morning at mt high.
Speaking of mt high and damian sanders. We used to go to mt high all the time for night skiing and he was there with some chicks from the avalanche team quite a bit. They all had white one piece suits and fluorescent headbands to match their boards. They were the shit back then...seriously. chicks throwing backflips and I think they were pretty cute. I cant really remember the magnitude of cuteness but I remember always thinking they were the shizzle. |

First Owned Board was a Morrow Spoon 149 that I got when I worked

I still have my 1980 Burton Backhill made and signed by Jake.
I was somehow able to get the local ski area manager to allow me on the t-bar in 1981 after i showed him i could "stop" the thing. I only got a board with edges in 1985.
I'm hoping to ride it again on a big pow day, i bet it's still fun to ride in the deep. |

Burton Cruiser 165. 1988 I think. The one with the different color mountains on it. V tail. "Darth Vader" bindings. Probably weighed 50 pounds.
I hear ya about the Sims bindings. I have a 1635 Kidwell (that I still have) that had those bindings. SOOOOO uncomfortable.
Also have the second year made Burton Air - blue and black - 1989? (163 I think). And a 140 Elite with a metal fin in the center of the tail.
Currently riding a 2006 Arbor Mystic 158 - Flow bindings. |

hahaha...powder ridge. Nothing happening there this year, unless they've got some sorta "micro-climate" going on.
I came late to the game - 96/97 Buston Custom 163. I broke it my first day riding ever, just after I'd finished my lesson on the bunny slope at Okemo. I sorta ice-picked the board into the dirt and it snapped just below the bend at the tip. Burton sent me a new board, thus ensuring my semi-loyalty. |
