I gotta PC DVD burner for Chritmas. All hooked up and software loaded.. I wanted to make duplicate disks from store bought DVDs. Only for back-up of course

But I get a message that the original DVDs are protected.. Are all DVDs protected or am I missing something here, maybe I need different software?? Everyone was telling me I could burn any DVD weither store bought - rented, ect..

If I cant burn duplicate copies of DVDs, I dont need it....

BTW: The burner does fine on CDs.

Thanks for the help..
Gordy

I don't know if it's true and I haven't tried it yet, but I've heard if you cover up the bar codes on the innermost part of the disk, you can copy it.

I guy that works at Best Buy told one of my co-workers that.

you probably wont be able to just copy the DVDs. you'll have to get a DVD ripping program and basically copy it to your hard drive and then burn it to DVD after that. I dont know what software to use for PC as i'm a mac guy but I'm sure there are several decent ones available. Tha's what I've done in the past and it works great.

Look on the internet for programs called dvd shrik or dvd decrypter. They should take out the copyright and you can use it.
