Launching a protective gear company in March called Pain Killer Pads. The website is just getting started: http://www.painkillerpads.com
We will be launching knee pads to start and then moving onwards to other gear. We have several patents pending on our knee pads..here's a sneak peek on our caps.
Most companies use polyethylene because it's cheap and wears out pretty fast. We will be using Lexan
Tensile strength: HDPE 4,600 Lexan 10,500
Flexural strength: HDPE 1,400 Lexan 12,000
Shear strength: HDPE 3,380 Lexan 9,200
Impact strength: HDPE 3 Lexan 13
Our patent pending cap lock system allows us to get away from the old velcro system. Since we are using Lexan(see-through), this also allows us to print graphics on the inside of our caps.
We also have invented the use of air pockets along with foam which will make PKP safer and more comfy. Hand sewn and manufactured in Oregon! Good luck to the other pad companies in 2011! |

i don't want to and certainly hope i don't come off as an asshole, but isn't that name awful close to the pre-existing pain cheaters knee pad? |

I'm excited by the concept of your innovations.
Good luck with it...but I agree with Mr. Kirby. Wee close to the 'Cheaters, name wise. Another point to ponder would be that there's an implication that the pain already exists and these pads would kill it, not that they'd prevent you from having pain in the first place.
But then...they don't erect statues to critics. |

Never gave it much thought..just liked the name and went with it.
Another way to look at it would be to see that all of the other pad companies pretty much make the same stuff using the same designs for the past 20 years. The only thing that really makes one different from another is their name.
I'm not hung up on the name as I know our product is better in every way. |

be interesting to see how the lexan works. I would think it is considerably more expensive but a hell of a lot more durable... be interesting to see if they crack or not. I dont know enough about either polymer to have an opinion one way or the other! it is cool to see someone trying something different!
good luck! |

So instead of velcro, you're going with clips and a buckle type tightening system? I like that.
Cordura, nylon, denim, or what for pad "casing"?
Slide gloves with built in wrist braces would probably sell.
The name is the ONLY issue I have, and that's a small issue at best. |

im stoked on this, " PKP " sounds good,,,
"dude, check my new PKPs "
i hope you do a "gasket" style with breathers and a lil more protection than whats currently out there. i wear just the gaskets(SCABS) under my pants for protection when i skate. i need minimal protection unlike pool or vert skaters but maybe a gasket style thin pad with one of these new caps in it, i dont know.
keep up the good work |
