are you just turning a desaturated pic into halftone dots?
i know how to do that...color halftones confuse me a bit more. |

this is how i do it....(click for bigger pictures)
say you have a picture that is all shades of gray...
Filter>Pixelate>Color Halftone
i went with 10 pixel radius. set all the channels to 45 or 90. i think if you set them to all the same degrees, it'll work. i just go with 45.
then you end up with...
zoomed in...

mess around with your levels and/or brightness/contrast of your picture.
you can always Undo if you don't like it. |

image mode from greyscale > bitmade mode/ halftone and you can set size shape and angle...
of do the seps into channels and output through illustrator into a rip program and you'll get muck cleaner smoother gradations in the dots...
there are so many ways to skin a cat
find a method you like after trying a few but learn a little of them all so if something doesn't look quite right you can approcah it differently |

Do what Defstar says. Set the halftones at 22.5 degrees, then 30 degrees off that (22, 53, 82, 22) and you will get halftone rosettes, which gives you nice transitions in any gradients you do. |
