amazingly i never hit the sunol/niles ditches. don't know why not either...
anyone ever hit that tunnel on mission by the lake before the rails went in to stop skaters riding the walls? that was a great spot. legend has it that natas blasted huge airs out it back in 87/88.
oh yeah, big o tires behind bank of america across from the hub has a curb that has always popular for a quick session. |

I was in the Air Force when that was put in so i never got to skate it before the rails went in, but my sisters boyfriend at the time did and broke his arm in there, I never heard the Natas story, pretty cool if it's true |

i think the Newark ditch might still be there since it was part of the drainage system that ran along the freeway, there is a lot of new stuff around there but i should check it out, all that construction might have created closer parking opportunities eliminating that long walk across the field.
update: yesterday I found out that the Newark ditch is in fact still there and back in action. apparently it's clean and local skaters have been adding to it with a concrete roll-in, etc. also parking is much easier and closer now with all the new businesses that are there. I'm hoping to check it out soon. |

You'll have to give me the 411 on that, I work at the Hayward/Union City Border, so Newark is a stone's throw... |

this is from memory and Google maps (since a lot has been built since the last time I skated there 15 years ago)
-from 880s
-take 84w then take the Newark Blvd. exit
-turn left on Newark Blvd.
-turn right on Jarvis Ave.
-pass Raley's shopping center on right
-turn right into the business park after the railroad track (I think you can turn right on Fircrest St.)
-turn right on Overtake Pl. and drive to the end.
-walk towards 84 and you'll see the drainage ditch running parallel to the freeway
-enjoy
-note: if you don't want to take the freeway, Hesperian Blvd. turns into Union City Blvd. which turns into Ardenwood Blvd. which turns into Newark Blvd. |
