having some problems with my metallic inks (metallic gold, silver, platinum). they print fine. no problems there. but wash the shirt once and a good portion of the ink washes out.
our dryer is perfect. curing doesn't seem to be a problem.

i heard that if you heat press the shirt after it comes out of the dryer the ink will stay in better.

my friend said he also tried hitting it with a clear coat over top of the ink, but he said it still washed out.

is there anything i can do to rectify this problem?
i have a band wanting shirts and they want metallic gold print. they're my friends too so i don't want to give them stuff that'll wash out super quick.

Their website says 3 passes, low angle, that's some serious ink deposit!!!

I'm wondering if the larger pigments are just less "sticky", and the heavy deposits are requisite in order to compensate for loss in the wash.

Shit, I'd say Iron the hell out of them, then clear cloat 'em...

actually i didn't even think to check the website. i usually do 3 passes.

haven't tried the heat press technique yet, but i'll give anything a shot. within reason.

I have used the qcm sparkle silver and sparkle gold for years now

best bet is to slow down your drier speed way down...
when the shirt comes out the end
rub you thumb on the metallic ink, if you see anything on your thumb
slow it more and send it again.... if you see any sparkle on your thumb it's just not cured

are you underbasing the metallics or just printing it straight...

I quit using the metallic platinum...
they look amazing coming out
but dull after washing to a dirty silver...
so it seems a waste like foils... fuck foils

i haven't been underbasing for the last shirts i did. i was going to try an underbase for the next run i did.

i'll slow down the dryer and see if that works out better.
